As the mother of a child with a life-threatening peanut allergy, this story has been instrumental in my son's development of maturity and self-sufficiency. "Peter" is the product of a bedtime story I told my son, after I failed to find age-appropriate material from which to teach him about the seriousness of his condition without frightening him. What I found was that my son was reciting the story along with me after only a few readings, and he was identifying with the character as well. Nadine O'Reilly, M.A. is a certified school psychologist and mother of a peanut-allergic and asthmatic boy. She wrote Peter Can't Eat Peanuts in response to her son's personal experience with peanut-induced anaphylaxis. He is the original Empowered Toddler.
