Ever wonder when the ivy was planted on the outfield walls and what all those flags around the park mean? Want to know the best way to heckle Cardinals fans and what it’s like in Cubs jail? How about where to go to hear some good tunes after the game or how to whip up a mean batch of goat chili? It’s all in Wise Guide™ Wrigley Field, The Fan Navigator to Wrigleyville, the brainchild of a pair of Chicago brothers, one a former college baseball pitcher and longtime Cubs season-ticket holder and the other a journalist who has covered the Cubs. The Wise Guide is for fans knowledgeable about the Cubs and Wrigleyville as well as those making their first visit to the Friendly Confines. It’s informative, providing fans a dose of history as well as ballpark and neighborhood facts, and a witty take on the entire Wrigleyville experience. “Readers should come away knowing more about Wrigley Field and Wrigleyville, whether they’re lifelong season-ticket holders or tourists attending their first Cubs game,” says John Buchanan, founder of Wise Guides Inc. “We hope they find the Wise Guide a bit amusing, too. This isn’t a manual on how to fill out your tax form, it’s a guide book designed to help you have more fun while catching a game at the greatest ballpark in America.” Topics in the 94-page, pocket-sized book are as varied as the Wrigleyville experience: tips for scoring good seats and bringing the kids to the game; how to sneak into better seats or get to the bathroom and back without missing a pitch; where to go for the best Bloody Mary in Wrigleyville or to hang out with the ballhawks. The book also includes a complete 2005 season schedule, a Wrigleyville restaurant/bar guide and a listing of City of Chicago events and neighborhood festivals. Wise Guides Inc. was created by John Buchanan, a pitcher when he was at Princeton University, and his brother Andy, who has written for the Associated Press, Chicago Tribune and The Wall Street Journal, and who spent the summer of 2003 covering the Cubs for the Associated Press.

About the Author:
ANDY BUCHANAN Andy Buchanan worked as a journalist in Chicago for close to 15 years for the Associated Press, Chicago Tribune, United Press International and the old City News Bureau. During that time he covered a little of everything, from politics to the police beat to government corruption and the criminal courts. Andy has also worked as a sportswriter, covering the Cubs during the dramatic summer of 2003 for the AP. Striving to remain impartial was one of the biggest challenges of that assignment because Andy is a lifelong Cubs fan. Attending his first game at Wrigley as a young child, Andy has followed the team for more than 30 years, a tradition he is passing on to his children; his daughter attended her first Cubs game at the age of two months. Andy believes Jose Cardenal was the greatest Cub of all-time, doesn’t understand why the team hasn’t retired Shawon Dunston’s #12 and says the Gingerman Tavern is the best post-game spot in Wrigleyville. JOHN BUCHANAN John Buchanan played, coached and watched baseball his entire life, and grew up a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates – he can still reel off the names of the players from the 1971 and ’79 World Champion Pirate teams and will never forget the crushing sadness he felt as a boy the day Roberto Clemente died. John has always rooted for the Cubs from afar, and after settling in Chicago post-college and moving in a block from the Friendly Confines, became hooked on the Cubs. A banker by trade, John has been a season ticket holder for the past 10 years and has an uncanny ability to correctly answer every Wrigley scoreboard trivia question, no matter how obscure. A former pitcher at Princeton University, he awaits the day when Dusty comes to the mound to make a pitching change, looks John’s way and taps his right arm.
