About the Author:

Mr. Hancock was born to one of the oldest Anglo-American families which helped finance the War of Independence. He was raised in Texas, in a suburb of Fort Worth. Although his family did not live in a rural area, Mr. Hancock's mother Beverly took him to riding lessons beginning at the age of four. He learned only English riding even though he grew up within miles of cattle ranches. Through grade school and high school, Mr. Hancock continued riding as well as learning skiing, parasailing, fencing and other sports. In college in New York City, Mr. Hancock was involved in student government and several clubs, including the Equestrian and Ski Clubs. He helped arrange riding outings in Forest Hills Park and ski trips to various resorts. In addition to personal travel, Mr. Hancock's college travel included student rallies and conferences representing his university in the US and Europe.
