About the Author:
Joe Alper was one of the seminal music photographers of the 1960s. His artist roster includes images of every great jazz blues and folk player of the decade, including album covers for Coltrane mingus, Sonny Rollins, Freda Payne, Leslie Gore and others. Louis Armstrong counted an image of Joe's as his favorite portrait of himself. After starting a photography program at University of Albany in New York in 1967, his career and his life were cut short in 1968 by kidney disease.
