The Wildman by Rick Hautala

Jeff Cameron is going back to Camp Tapiola on Lake Onwego to meet several old friends and share fond memories of their childhood camp experiences. But all childhood memories of camp are not so fond....like when their friend Jimmy Foster was fished out of the camp's lake.

The authorities say it was an accidental drowning, but Jeff knows better.

Now, Jeff must try to figure out why one of his friends seems to have a hidden agenda and what this reunion is really all about. Was Jimmy Foster's death a murder or accident? The mystery has haunted Jeff for thirty five years.

And another question remains... who is "The Wildman"?

About the Author:
Rick Hautala is best know as a speculative fiction and horror writer. He graduated from the University of Maine in 1974 where he received a Master of Art in English Literature. [1] He has written and published over 90 novels and short stories since the early 1980s. Many of his books have been translated to other languages and sold internationally. Recently he has published many of his works with specialty press and small press publishers like Cemetery Dance Publications and Dark Harvest. His novel The Wildman (2008), was chosen to be Full Moon Press' debut limited edition title. Rick Hautala's third novel, 1986's "Night Stone", was one of the first books to feature a holographic cover and it became an international best-seller, selling well over one million copies. [2] "Knocking" was a part of the Bram Stoker Award winning anthology 999: New Stories of Horror and Suspense ("Best Anthology of 1999"). His short story collection, Bedbugs (1999) was selected by Barnes and Noble as one of the most distinguished horror publications of the year 2000. Rick Hautala also writes screenplays. His most recent 2008 adaptation of award winning author Kealan Patrick Burke's "Peepers" is currently on the film festival circuit. He also wrote the screenplay for the 2007 short film Dead@17 based on Josh Howard's graphic novel series of the same name.
Review:
THE WILDMAN by Rick Hautala Review by Norm Rubenstein Horror World Reviews

Author Hautala expertly sets his stage and gives the reader both a number of interesting and compelling characters as well as a great storyline. Hautala s writing is intelligent and economical and, after the initial setup, keeps the story moving at breakneck speed throughout the majority of the novel, with ever-escalating tension, some clever red-herrings thrown in, and truly inspired and brilliant plot twists. The Wildman is a vastly entertaining novel, one that is very easy for the reader to quickly and totally immerse him or herself in, and to happily lose all track of time while reading.

The Wildman is a wonderful and inspired selection for Full Moon Press to be utilizing to introduce itself to the Horror and Suspense Genre readership. It is a most auspicious beginning for Full Moon Press, and if their future titles are anywhere near as exciting, enjoyable, and well written, they should have no problem in rapidly establishing an excellent reputation and record, and in selling out their entire planned limited edition publications. As it stands, The Wildman receives my highest recommendation, without reservation, and readers would do well to make certain to obtain a copy of this book while such copies remain available. This is definitely one of Rick Hautala s best novels, and is likely to receive serious consideration when awards time next comes around. It should prove to be an admired and proud addition to anyone s library and/or collection. --Horror World

Reviewed by David Niall Wilson

This is a story of friendships gone bad, of memories that leak into the present and stain reality in strange and unfamiliar colors. It s a story of revenge, and hatred, death, and redemption. There are hints of the supernatural, but the tale is rooted in gritty reality. There are intrigues within intrigues, and at the end - you may believe you have it all figured out, but if you think about it again...run it through your mind...maybe you got lost in the woods.

This is a good, solid novel by a talented author, beautifully illustrated by artist Alan Clark. It is also the premiere original novel from new specialty publisher FULL MOON PRESS . This is a signed, limited edition book at an affordable price with lavish illustrations and the promise of wonderful production values. --Macbre Ink
