Kathy and Ginny became reacquainted in 1980 while on a backpacking trip with the Spokane Mountaineers. Kathy had previously known Ginny when their sons played Little League football together. Kathy encouraged Ginny, a distance runner, to pursue bicycling.
Excited about the World's Fair Expo, held in Spokane (1974), and the soon-to-be-held Knoxville Expo (1982), the women offered to become Ambassadors of Good Will by bicycling from Spokane to Knoxville -- Approximately 2,850 miles. People across the United States were impressed with these two women's determination and their ability to complete their hard-won goal, despite numerous obstacles.
Kathy has extensive bicycling experience, including cycling the San Juan Islands, the Canadian Gulf Islands, the entire Olympic peninsula, the Oregon coast, across Washington state to the Idaho border, STP (Seattle to Portland) event, a North Idaho loop, the Hiawatha Trail, the entire Trail of the Coeur d'alenes and the Centennial Trail. She has completed several Bicycle Club Autumn Centuries, and rides with the Scenic Group of the Spokane Bicycle Club.
Kathy was a gold and silver medalist in the 2001 National Senior Olympics in Louisiana, a gold medalist in the Arizona 2006 Senior Olympics, and a 2008 triathlete in bicycling, Hayden, Idaho (team effort).
