From an outsider’s perspective, the housing complex named the Alba Homes on Chicago’s south side was some low income dilapidated buildings, but to those who reside there, it was the place they called home. Demetrius AKA Eat’em Up was one of the many children raised inside the dangerous walls of the Alba Homes. Learning at an early age to not only adapt to his environment, he also learned to survive inside the concrete jungle. Born to a single mother who had a growing addiction and promiscuous ways that often placed the two of them in potentially dangerous situations. Latisha Raggs, an older Italian women that volunteered at the rec center not far from the Alba Homes. Wife to the notorious crime boss Frankie Two Shoes. A near death experience forges a lifelong relationship that changed both Eat’em Up and Latisha’s life forever. It was that bond that placed an unlikely Eat’em Up in the presence of the Italian Mafia. Never in history has a black man had blood ties with the La Costra Nostra. Under Frankie Two Shoes guidance Eat’em Up sets out to unite all the underground organizations in Chicago, forming the first real black mafia family. Can Eat’em Up convince the other organizations to believe in and follow his concept and ideology, or will the cold streets of the Windy City do him in.

About the Author:
Get Down or Lay Down is the first book I wrote and to be totally honest I never anticipated on making a career out of being an author. As a 36 year old man who's both born and raised in the cold streets of Minneapolis, MN I became a product of my environment, doing whatever I deemed necessary to get what I felt I had coming. After many years of chasing the ghetto dream of getting rich quick I took a big fall. It was at this time I discovered my hidden talent - writing. During my incarceration, I read numerous so called urban books with the majority of them being so far fetched it was plain as day the authors weren't from the hood. Not to mention I disliked the way the majority of the books I'd been reading. They all had same or similar endings with the characters ending up in jail or dead. I believe the bad guys don't always have to loose. What we're lacking in urban books are ghetto heroes. All we hear about are the negatives that the drug dealers and gang members produce, no one speaks on the drug dealers who buy the kids' basketball teams shoes and uniforms or the gang members that protect their neighborhoods from would be vandals, robbers and thieves. This is what Street Life Publishing is bringing to the Game. Here you will read the things other authors don't write about.....here our authors can express themselves from "either" side of the coin. This is why I started writing my own. One that was based on what I've seen and know people will be able to "feel". A book that would seem realistic but raw and uncut depicting situations that occur in every city and state. By the time I finished my novel and passed it around, a huge buzz was created; it was then I realized that I found my calling. Not one to follow anyone's lead other than my own, I started my own publishing company with hopes of introducing my readers to the streets of Minneapolis. There are so many other authors out there putting their city on the map that I felt obligated to rep Murderapolis while at the same time paving the way for new up and coming authors a platform to be heard. So if you are a fan of fiction/realistic reading material, cop Get Down or Lay Down - you won't be disappointed, it's raw and uncut gangsterism.
