The Masters Ball is a light-hearted, madcap mystery featuring a handsome ghost who returns to help an amateur sleuth solve his murder. The story is set in the affluent, boozy background of English-style foxhunting and has an amusing supporting cast of horses, hounds and flamboyant characters.

From the Author:
I began The Masters Ball as a simple recounting of some of my more entertaining experiences during twenty-something years as an equestrienne and foxhunter.  But my love of murder mysteries quickly took over and I knew someone had to die!  Seriously, there's nothing like a dead body to keep a reader turning pages long after he or she should have had the lights off.  Then, a couple of chapters into my creation, I realized I had killed off my most interesting character, Edmund Evans, before we really got a chance to know him.  I debated about keeping him around in flashbacks from the perspectives of different characters, but the idea didn't inspire me.  Then, in the middle of the night - literally - I decided to keep Edmund around as a ghost.  I grinned there in the dark.  I love ghosts, almost as much as I love mysteries.

I will not insult your intelligence by trying to pretend my idea is an original one.  If you are my age or older, you probably recall the black and white classic films Topper and The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, the one a delightful comedy and the other a tear-jerker romance, both featuring ghosts.  If you are younger and haven't heard of them, you owe it to yourself to check them out on Turner Classic Movies or Netflix.  I freely admit to being influenced by both, but I hope The Masters Ball will make you laugh rather than cry.  I also hope you will decide to follow Annabelle and Edmund on their further adventures in Murder at the Steeplechase.
About the Author:
Anne-Marie Lacy lives in Alabama with her husband Allen Lacy and a pair of terriers named Flurry and Bartholomew.  A former City Attorney and prosecutor, she is currently in private practice specializing in criminal defense.  She has been a foxhunter for seventeen years, and has been a member of the Mooreland Hounds in Alabama and the Hillsboro Hounds in Tennessee.  She and her Arabian mare Feather are now proud members of Albert Menefee's Cedar Knob Hounds in Tennessee, where Anne-Marie serves as Hunt Secretary.  The Masters Ball is her first novel.
