Review:
This bilingual picture book ...on facing pages--celebrates the joys of spending time with a father. The author uses rhyming text to describe how a father comforts a child during tough times, prepares good meals, teaches her, reads books aloud, and provides encouragement. All of these small actions form a strong bond between a father and child and serve as good examples for today's fathers or mothers. --Goodreads
On alternating spreads, a brother and a sister relate their daily lives with their father. The pages feature colorful paintings that, although flat and with little background detail, provide a solid backdrop for the simple rhyming couplets. The text is printed in English, Chinese, and Chinese transliterated into English, though the characters don't appear to be of any particular ethnicity. Illustrations are cheerful and childlike, displaying simple scenes both inside the house and camping outdoors. Toddlers will enjoy the rhythm of the text and will identify with a preschooler and parent cooking meals, reading books, and playing pretend. The narrative has intergenerational appeal, especially for Chinese-speaking families who can enjoy a shared reading experience. --School LIbrary Journal
This bilingual book, set in rhyme, follows two children and their favorite guy, their father. Pages alternate between a little girl and a little boy. They each do different everyday things with their dad; the book conveys a positive message with a caring father. Word choices are simple and would be well-suited for a read-aloud for younger students, or even an ESL student to have both languages on the same page. Illustrations convey the simplicity of a father-child relationship. --Library Media Connection
