Parents grew more loving and spoke more kindly to the little ones; and a daily contact with the truths of Scripture through these warm, tender, young natures, was acting upon the very springs of their life. Mr. Williams saw that here was a field white for the harvest; and, after much thought and prayer, he consulted the little prayingcircle as to procuring a minister of the gospel. There could be but one opinion concerning the want of the community; but how could a preacher be supported? Mr. Williams was a practical man, and looked the question fairly in the face, with that faith before which mountains of difficulty flee away,--a faith that works! There were now five Christian families at the harbor; none of them wealthy, but all comfortable. If they would give one-tenth of their income, according to Scripture, half the support of a minister would be secured. Then there were friends who would aid. Dr. Sprague had already offered to be responsible for forty dollars a year, if a good preacher could be found. Besides, Mr. Williams stood ready to give even more than a tenth of his income, if necessary. Correspondence was had with a personal acquaintance of Mr. Willliams, who seemed, as he thought, especially adapted to the field, and very soon he was landed by " The Northern Light."
