About the Author:

The Author And His Book Louis Michael Grafe was born in Poplar Bluffs, Missouri, on February 2, 1892. He worked his way through high school as a boy stenographer and soon found a career for himself in the advertising business. His first writing was a course in charm sold by mail order as a substitute product for a company selling oil burners by mail to use when the season changed. His success in writing mail order copy for both his charm course and for oil burners led to a position as circulation manager for a national magazine with a circulation of over 1,000,000. After this, he organized a company which sold $6,000,000 worth of cosmetics by mail and made his first fortune, which he promptly lost trying to keep this business going during the Depression. He then became publicity director for a large Los Angeles religious organization and started a mail order book venture which earned him a second fortune. Get Rich in Spite of Yourself was originally privately published for sale in this latter program and has sold over 170,000 copies by mail.
