Dell'Epopea alla Satira, da Omero a Giuvenale il passaggio dee riuscire inaspettato, però un po' meno che quello d'Omero stesso, che dopo Achille ed Ulisse cantò le Rane ed i Topi. Non fu già una predilezione per questo genere che m'indusse a tinger la penna nella bile di Giuvenale; ma un accidente, e una specie di capriccio letterario; ne io intendo di dar al publico un lavoro, ma un saggio e un esperimento poetico. Se si pon mente al senso che su sempre dato generalmente al nome di Satira, la maniera del Satirico Aquinate sembra appartener più quella del Venusino all'essenza di questo componimento; e questa maniera ebbe in Italia maggior numero di seguaci illustri.
