Un des derniers matins qui précédèrent sa mort, Corot dit à un de aes amis J'ai vu cette nuit en rêve un paysage dont le Ciel était tout rose. Les nuages aussi étaient roses'. C'était délicieux. Je me le rappelle très bien. Ce sera admirable à peindre. Délire touchant, où se mariaient les visions et les réalités douces! Corot et son oeuvre s'y révèlent tout entiers l'homme, avec sa candeur et son ardent amour du travail; l'oeuvre, avec ce mé lange de nature et d'exaltation poétique qui lui assure une place au premier rang.
