About the Author:

A native New Yorker, Victoria C. Olsen earned a Ph.D. in English literature from Stanford University, where she wrote a dissertation about women and changing definitions of culture in literature and art. After twelve years in California, she returned to New York City and taught essay writing to first-year students at New York University for eleven years. She has published essays in Smithsonian Magazine, Salon, and other online, trade, and scholarly journals; as well as a middle-grade novel, Word Blind, about a Victorian girl with dyslexia.
