I declined immediately because I didn't want to talk about my 'Nam experience. She told me I should record my nightmares & flashbacks; and to dig down deep and pull out all the stressful memories. I did this, and the more I wrote, the more I hurt and the more I hurt, the more I cried.I wrote for two years and began to feel better about myself and about Vietnam. I had so many notes I decided to try and write them into a book. I didn't have to do any research.This is how GUNNER'S WINGS came to be. I wrote this story about the helicopter side of the war. Names, places and dates have been changed. If characters in this book resemble anyone living or dead, it is purely coincidently.

About the Author:
The author spent a decade in the U.S. Army. He was in the Honor Guard at Fort Benning, Georgia, when President Kennedy was assassinated and he served in his funeral. After serving in Vietnam 1965 - 1966, he finished his last two years of military service as an Instructor before being discharged. He had failed marriages and a lot of job burn-out, which he contributes to Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. His hobbies, other than writing, is singing Elvis songs and doing 'Tributes' to the King. He says, "I love writing and want to write more stories about military life." Following his first book, Gunners Wings, Blake Allen Manly, he wrote the sequel, Gunner's Wings II, No Yellow Ribbons. Sonny Abbott recommends "Writing Therapy" for Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. He is now retired after serving as a Maritime Captain in cargo and oil and lives at his home in Panama City, Beach, Florida.
