Jeanine Sterlin began The Calm After the Storm, her memoirs, as a way to alleviate the pain she experienced after a painful divorce that ended decades of an abusive relationship. She later realized that her writings had become a catharsis—a source of inner healing. A native of Haiti, Sterlin experienced all the joys of tropical living, a loving family, and a Caribbean culture. She endured the pain of an abusive marriage, the curse of evil, the affliction of poverty brought on by the wrath of nature. In spite of all this, she emerged as a strong individual who managed to bring into the world five great sons who are sources of a great sense of pride. She has remained true to the values that she learned from her family. Jeanine has succeeded in turning tragic situations into opportunities for growth, maturity, and compassion.
