About the Author:

Jennifer Cole Judd has dreamed of joining the circus, but for now she’s content with writing children’s poetry and books and perfecting her juggling act with her children and little dog. Her poems and stories have appeared in several children’s magazines. She coedited and contributed to An Eyeball in My Garden, a spooky middle-grade poetry anthology featuring fourteen children’s poets. Circus Train is her first picture book. Melanie Matthews is an illustrator, designer, and bear enthusiast living in Melbourne, Australia. She studied fine art and then illustration at the Chisholm Institute. PreS-Gr 1—This brightly illustrated book depicts a circus traveling by train, its arrival, set up, and highlights of the Big Top ("Tigers, horses/weave through courses./Vendors handy—'Cotton candy!'"). When the show is over, the crew helps in the breakdown and everyone hops back on the train, heading to the next town. One sticking point: the text states that the train spills over the hills when arriving and departing, but the image only portrays it chugging up and down the tracks.
