Engineering Principles of Mechanical Vibration is a textbook that is designed for use in senior-level undergraduate and introductory and intermediate-level graduate courses in mechanical vibration. It assumes that students have a fundamental understanding of rigid body dynamics and ordinary differential equations. Engineering Principles of Mechanical Vibration is an applications-oriented vibration textbook that contains complete developments of equations associated with the many vibration principles discussed in the textbook. The textbook presents complete developments of solution techniques for differential equations associated with lumped-parameter single- and multi-degree-of-freedom and basic continuous vibration systems. It discusses principles associated with periodic, complex periodic, nonperiodic, transient, and random vibration excitation and presents information related to vibration measurements, digital processing of vibration signals, and analytical and experimental modal analyses.

About the Author:
Dr. Douglas D. Reynolds has over forty years of teaching, research, and consulting experience in mechanical vibration. He is currently professor of mechanical engineering and director of the Center for Mechanical and Environmental System Technology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He formally taught at the University of Texas at Austin as an assistant professor of architectural engineering and at the University of Pittsburgh as an associate professor of mechanical engineering. Dr. Reynolds has worked on applications-oriented research projects related to human exposure to vibration and shock. He is currently chairman of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Standards Committee S2/Working Group 39-Human Exposure to Mechanical Vibration and Shock. He is chairman of the US Technical Advisory Group (TAG) and head of the US delegation for the International Organization on Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 108/Subcommittee (SC) 4-Human Exposure to Mechanical Vibration and Shock.
