Wedding folklorist and costume historian Cornelia Powell, along with her insightful way of looking at the life of Princess Diana, forms a captivating view into the world of brides and ceremony, of fairy tales and princess myths. "The End of the Fairy-Tale Bride: For Better or Worse, How Princess Diana Rescued the Great White Wedding"—this first volume of irresistible stories—combines bridal mythology, fashion history, goddess legends, royal ceremonies, and a bit of cosmic mystery with the life of the world’s most famous celebrity and the ultimate princess bride. The author has a singular perspective on Princess Diana’s influence on weddings including their complement of womanly rituals. On the gilded wave following Diana’s royal wedding in 1981—reinventing an outdated bridal industry and bringing weddings back into high-style—Cornelia created a store for the new woman emerging that decade...a design haven for this "grown-up bride." And her invitation over the years to all those brides-to-be, “don’t settle for being a princess for a day, be a goddess for a lifetime,” shapes the heart of this book. Called “such an intimate experience from which the reader emerges transformed,” the book wraps its narrative inside the heart-opening legacy of an archetypal princess who changed our notion of 'happily ever after', who ended the myth of the fairy-tale bride, and who opened a tender pathway to love for those she left behind.

About the Author:
Wedding folklorist and costume historian Cornelia Powell first made headlines in the world of weddings with her nationally celebrated bridal art-to-wear boutique in Atlanta in the 1980s and ‘90s. During this time Ms. Powell and her shop were featured in numerous magazines and books including Hearst Publication’s "The Business of Bliss: How to Profit from Doing What You Love," highlighting women entrepreneurs presented in "Victoria" magazine. Now as a writer and popular guest speaker, Ms. Powell shares captivating stories combining fashion history, goddess legends, wedding mythology, the intimacy of the bridal rite-of-passage, and the psychology of dress. Her latest book, "The End of the Fairy-Tale Bride {Volume One} For Better or Worse, How Princess Diana Rescued the Great White Wedding," features the influence of the archetypal princess’ life on the world of weddings and the lingering effects of the “princess myth” in popular culture. Her other books are the Amazon bestseller "The Bride’s Ritual Guide: Look Inside to Find Yourself" and Kindle E-book, "The Handkerchief Has Been Thrown! Something Old & Something New for Gay Couples and Wedding Rituals." With the current popularity of the award-winning British costume drama, "Downton Abbey," Ms. Powell is in demand for articles and talks (with PowerPoint presentations full of beautiful images) on the elegance of the period clothes and life rituals we see on the television series. She also reveals “behind the scenes” information that the Downton costume designers shared about their “task of translation” in creating each actor’s wardrobe. Ms. Powell was the featured speaker in the spring of 2014 at the prestigious Winterthur Museum during their “Costumes of Downton Abbey” exhibition as well as at the legendary Biltmore estate as part of their 2015 “Dressing Downton” exhibit. The author is a former associate editor at "Vogue" magazine and served for years as a member of the Costume Society of America’s Board of Directors.
