A few weeks ago Mme. Piazza-chaigneau notified me of her intention to sell at auction a number of sculptures from her collection. She wished to consult me, as has been her habit, in regard to the artistic value of certain objects in her possession. I considered her plans for the sale a secret of which I was the guardian, but I was quickly to learn otherwise: the secret has come to light. A number of amateurs and prominent antiquaries of Paris, England, Germany, and America have written me asking my advice about Mme. Piazza-chaigneau's collection. If the news of the sale, still un official, has interested the public to such an extent, certainly it is proof that the reputation of this collection of sculpture is clearly established.
