From the Back Cover:
"I have read, highlighted and made notes in the margins of Unraveling Cancer. I'm impressed by the extent of research and documentation put into this book. As a medical community, we have vastly underutilized the impact of "food as toxins" as well "foods as medicine" and the profound health inducing and disease preventative effects of physical activity, sound sleep, the stress response, etc. Dr. Lewis' explanation of the science that defines the most effective uses of these strategies has empowered me as a physician to more effectively equip my patients with proactive healing strategies that assist them in taking better control of their health. As an integrative medicine physician with a keen interest in prevention as well as the underlying immunology and systemic disequilibrium that allows cancer to flourish, I sincerely appreciate Dr.Lewis' insights into the causes and treatment of cancer. His review of the incredible body of scientific literature supporting these findings helps validate the implementation of these evidence-based healing strategies at an academic medical center such as ours. For that I applaud him. I very much appreciate his work in helping expand our collective understanding of cancer, why it occurs, and how to stop it."

About the Author:
Dr. Lewis is a practicing physician, board certified in Preventive Medicine and Public Health. He is a researcher, author, epidemiologist and developer of several patented medical devices. His research focuses on the prevention of chronic disease and the restoration of health after disease diagnosis. Dr. Lewis led the first research group to demonstrate that elevations in serum homocysteine levels, caused by marginal levels of the B vitamin folate, increases the risk for coronary artery disease. This work was cited by the Institute of Medicine for their recommendations for setting higher levels of folic acid fortification of processed foods, a change that resulted in a reduced incidence of heart disease, neural tube defects, and in some cancers in the United States. In collaboration with the Scheie Eye Institute and Columbia University, Dr. Lewis helped identify the cause of a severe form of recessive retinitis pigmentosa, RP-14 as being caused by a mutation in the TULP1 gene. Dr. Lewis now focuses translational research in the area of preventive medicine and health, the translation of basic research into practical application for disease prevention and treatment. In the book "Enteroimmunology" he explained the mechanisms by which thegastrointestinal immune system promotes systemic inflammation and thedevelopment of chronic diseases, including diseases and disorders of the central nervous system. In "Unraveling Cancer" he reveals the mechanisms in the cell that cause cancer and describes how we can prevent those processes.
