About the Author:
Deb Acord grew up in Iowa, where she often visited the lofty bluffs of Pikes Peak State Park. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa, and worked as a journalist in Iowa, before deciding to check out Colorado's Pikes Peak. She has lived in Colorado for 17 years, working as a writer and editor for the Colorado Springs Gazette, where she now covers all aspects of outdoor recreation. She is the author of Colorado Winter: Activities, Trails & Tips, three trail guides and a topographic poster of the mountains of Colorado's Front Range.

Raised and educated in Denver's Capitol Hill, Patrick Soran lives in the very home in which he was born. The house was purchased by his grandparents in 1936 and has served as hearth and home to three generations. Needless to say, Patrick is an enthusiastic advocate of Denver; he loves to pedal its bicycle paths, chat with friends in its urbane coffee shops, walk its tree-lined avenues and, of course, spend autumn Sundays cheering (and crying!) for the Denver Broncos. Trained as an architect, Patrick designed luxury homes and hotel interiors for 15 years before trading T-square and triangle for computer and camera in 1990. Now he explores the world writing articles about travel, design and personalities for newspapers and magazines across the country. Patrick is immensely proud to write about his home state. He believes Colorado has terrific wilderness and wildlife experiences, edge-of-the-envelope recreation and exciting cultural and lifestyle opportunities.
