About the Author:
Adrienne Mason is an educator and author whose books include Owls, Snakes, Move It! and Touch It! She lives in Tofino, British Columbia.
From School Library Journal:
Grade 1-3-In this seventh in the series, the dog detectives are baby-sitting Lu's sister, Sophie, and her friend Fanny. During a hike, Sophie disappears, and Lu and Clancy spring into action. Along the way, the author interweaves many activities and science concepts based on sound. Examples of activities range from making flutes out of drinking straws to storm sound effects. All of the crafts use simple, easily obtainable supplies, have three to five steps to completion, and contain a short explanation of "How it works." Cautions are included with each set of directions. However, in the storm section there is no warning about finding a safe place before counting the seconds between lightning and thunder. With their expressive eyes and eyebrows, Cupples's dogs have humorous facial expressions that are sure to amuse young readers. Purchase where others in the series have found popularity.
