Ring describes the training of special-use dogs and gives examples of their work in assisting humans. The most interesting accounts deal with service dogs that have been trained to pick up objects, open doors, turn on lights, and even lock and unlock wheelchairs and pull them for their human companions. The color photographs are adequate, though somewhat static in size and placement.
