From School Library Journal:
Grade 4-6-A loving tribute to the great humanitarian. The story of Schweitzer's selfless dedication to world peace, arms reduction, health care, human and animal rights, and the protection of the environment is told with the hope that today's readers will be inspired by his example. A preface by his daughter, generous use of quotations from his writings, and the good-quality black-and-white photographs scattered throughout help to make this renowned but unassuming man come to life. In this readable account, Robles emphasizes the principle of "Reverence for Life" that was the compelling force behind all of Schweitzer's words and actions. A good bibliography and index make this a useful source for reports as well as an excellent choice for pleasure reading.

From Kirkus Reviews:
An easy, accessible life of the great humanitarian, with an impassioned afterword. Robles's chronicle is straightforward: Schweitzer's birth in Alsace, the awakening of his social conscience, and his trip to the ``Congo,'' where he began his work at the river mission at Lambar‚n‚; his tribulations during two world wars, one trip to the US, and the 1952 Nobel Peace Prize (he gave his prize money to his hospital for lepers). Notes identify sources for quotes but not for the feelings and thoughts attributed to Schweitzer; nevertheless, Robles takes a name that may be only slightly familiar and serves up a man young readers will admire.
