Kabbalah is the study of "hidden" aspects of Judaism, including philosophical and spiritual explanations of Jewish life and beliefs. Mystical Kabbalah simplifies Jewish beliefs for a secular audience, focusing almost exclusively upon the spiritual side. Rabbi Cooper reads in quiet, soothing tones with extremely slow intonation and phrasing. The pace of the reading is quite suitable for the text. However, the long, silent pauses for the meditations make listening in the car disconcerting. The tapes are accompanied by a booklet containing a glossary of Hebrew terms and diagrams describing the spiritual concepts. Mystical Kabbalah is best suited for listeners interested in meditation.
