About the Author:
Anne Mangan was born in London, and migrated with her family to Australia when she was two. She is currently employed as a social worker in country Victoria, where she lives with her family. Kim Fleming is a Melbourne illustrator. This is her first book.
Review:
This is a "huggable" book. The main character is lovable; the illustrations almost reach out and "touch" the reader, and a very important lesson is learned in the process. Browny has problems in his "bear world" that connect to many children: Small size, rejection. Unable to do some of the things that his bigger friends can do. But with the help of another small friend, Browny discovers a new opportunity and realizes that it's OK to be just as he is.Children and bear stories go together. This one is no exception. The illustrations are guaranteed to lure the young reader in, and the story line-short, important, and to the point-will intrigue the young child. Those who can identify with Browny's problem will take away encouragement and sense of well being. Even those who haven't faced what Browny faced will learn about understanding and sensitivity to others.I can't wait to show this book to my 7 year-old neighbor. -- From Independent Publisher
