Both authors had extensive experience working with children and families in the school setting as well as in private practice.  The activities recommended in the book came from the practical experiences of the authors both in their individual work and the work they observed and performed in collaboration with colleagues including teachers, speech and language pathologists and school counselors.  Some of the motivation to write "Say Goodbye to Being Shy" arose from the authors' desire to have a collection of proven practical activities to overcome shyness gathered into one resource.  The authors have found these activities to be helpful in working with children displaying extreme shyness and other related conditions such as selective mutism.
