With full color photographs, this book relates the joys and benefits of being bilingual. It begins with explaining how we learn a language, and then focuses on the lives of five bilingual children.  A rainbow listing of over 600 languages insures that readers will feel represented in this book. Recommended Age level: 4-10 years.Reviews:  From  Multicultural Review....." This picture book can be read over and over to children. We are introduced to bilingual   children who speak Spanish, Hmong, and Tagalog in addition to English. We are shown   beautiful pictures of the children and their families and pets in everyday situations and   activities. Children are introduced not only to languages other than English, but also to   various traditions and customs of diverse people.  With this book, the author succeeds in   explaining to children how they learn languages, what it means to be bilingual, and the    importance of languages in their everyday lives. The photographs depict to young readers    a world in which languages are a natural and integral part of their environment." From  Today's Librarian........ "Overflowing with color photographs of families from around the world, the book tells of  the delights and experiences that can result from knowing more than one language..  There  is also a colorful list of more than 600 languages to emphasize the breadth of   diversity in the world....This book could also be enlightening for English-only speaking  children who live in a community with many bilingual people." From Children's Bookwatch.... "This book is a wonderful introduction to young readers on what it means to be bilingual         and the kinds of things bilingual children (and adults!) can do. The simple but informative  text is enhanced throughout with superb and colorful photographs."

Review:

"How wonderful to have a book that sings the praises of bilingualism. By showing photographs of children and their families, both in the U.S. and other countries, young readers can learn the value of knowing multiple languages. The rainbow colors throughout emphasize how we are all connected by the universality of culture and language. This book is truly a gem!" -- Zoe Harris, educator, author, multicultural consultant.
