A comprehensive catalogue of the separately printed English peoms of the first half of the 18th century. Volume I contains some 10,000 entries, with full bibliographical details and information on first lines, subject, and the location of copies; many of the works listed are very rare and exist only in little known collections. Foxon has personally examined as many copies of each work as possible in British and American libraries and has been able to provide a great deal of important new bibliographical information. Many unknown works have been discovered, and new issues or editions, even of such well-researched authors as Swift and Pope, are identified.
Volume II comprises a full series of indexes of subjects and first lines, there is a chronological index listing the poems in their order of publication, indexes of bibliographical notabilia and descriptive epithets, and an index of printers and booksellers, which by itself will provide invaluable new information for libraries, antiquarian booksellers, bibliographers and historians of printing, publishing and bookselling. Co-published with the British Library.
