Review:
Handbook on Injectable Drugs 17th Edition
By Lawrence A. Trissel

By Laurence A. Goldberg
Final edition on injectables from Trissel does not disappointThis 17th edition brings together information on 332 parenteral drugs available commercially in the US and other countries. The sources of this information are accumulated from 2,830 references, including 42 new to this edition. As in each of the previous editions, the monographs have been completely updated. In addition, some monographs have been reorganised and redundant material pruned to make the book easier to use, especially in the electronic form.
The book is designed for ease of use in clinical situations. Monographs are listed alphabetically by non-proprietary name. The names of the drugs follow the style of the USP Dictionary of Drug Names. American Hospital Formulary Service drug information reference codes are conveniently located at the top of each monograph to refer the reader to more detailed information.
The aim of this book has remained unchanged over the years: to organise and summarise, in a concise and standardised format, the results of the primary research into drug stability and compatibility and to facilitate the use of parenteral drugs in clinical practice for the benefit of patients. This edition, like the previous 16, achieves this aim. It is an essential reference source for those professionals involved in the preparation or clinical use of injectable drugs. The author has spent tens of thousands of hours preparing the 17 editions of this book. The sacrifice of his time was made in the knowledge that his efforts were providing useful and valuable information in patient care. He has now decided that this edition will be his last and his cherished work will be passed on to others.
