Earning the nickname "the Flying Schoolgirl," Katherine performs at exhibitions in California, sets distance records, flies in Japan, China, and Canada, and with her family opens a flying school in San Antonio, Texas, where she teaches young men to fly. When the U.S. Army won't allow her to fly in Europe, she uses her exhibition skills to raise over two million dollars for the Red Cross.

Throughout her life, Katherine Stinson Otero's high morals and high spirits prevailed. She was never one to take no for an answer, and her adventurous spirit lives on in the many schools, airplanes, and monuments named for her.

Neila Skinner Petrick's writing career began when she served as writer and photographer for the Corsicana (Texas) Daily Sun. She also held the position of editor for the Italy (Texas) News-Herald and worked for the Dallas Morning News.

Petrick received her bachelor of journalism degree from the University of Texas at Austin. She earned her master of arts in interdisciplinary studies at the University of Texas at Dallas.
Since the 1990s, Petrick has been a writer-producer. The author of nine produced plays, Petrick has won several awards, including the silver medal at the New York Film & Video Festival and the Associated Press Managing Editors Award for writing.

She is also the author of Jane Long of Texas: 1798-1880 and a picture book, Jane Wilkinson Long: Texas Pioneer, both published by Pelican. She lives in Dallas, Texas, with her husband, Tom.

Illustrator Daggi Wallace was born and raised in West Berlin, Germany. She emigrated to Phoenix, Arizona, at age sixteen and now lives in Dallas with her two daughters.

The recipient of over forty-five awards for her pastels, Ms. Wallace has exhibited her artwork in Germany, Italy, and throughout the United States. She is a member of the Pastel Society of the Southwest, Portrait Society of America, Degas Pastel Society, and Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Besides being very busy with her children and artwork, including many portrait commissions, she has been an international flight attendant for a major airline since the 1980s.
