Angelica Masterson, a smart girl with a strong survival instinct, is trapped in an environment without hope. She is sixteen years old, a straight-A, student living in the housing projects of Cleveland, Ohio with her mother Raye; her twelve year-old sister; her nine year-old brother; and her mother’s boyfriend Bob Danville. Bob has been living with the family a year-and-a-half and has been sexually molesting Angelica for six months. Angelica tells her mother about this, seeking her assistance, but her mother does nothing to stop it. The neighborhood drug-dealer, Ron Stubbs, convinces Angelica to let him use his influence and muscle to put a permanent stop to Bob’s disgusting behavior—Bob is assaulted. He decides to leave the house and Raye blames his move on Angelica. She then throws Angelica out of the house with nowhere to go, and much drama and suspense unfolds.
