About the Author:

Born in 1962 in Denver, Colorado, Scott Nickel works by day at Paws, inc., Jim Davis's famous Garfield studio, and he freelances by night. Burning the midnight oil, Scott has created hundreds of humorous greeting cards and written several children's books, short fiction for "Boys' Life" magazine, comic strips, and lots of really funny knock-knock jokes. He was raised in southern California, but in 1995 Scott moved to Indiana, where he currently lives with his wife, two sons, six cats, and several sea monkeys.

Steve Harpster has loved to draw funny cartoons, mean monsters, and goofy gadgets since he was able to pick up a pencil.  In first grade, he avoided writing assignments by working on the pictures for stories instead.  Steve was able to land a job drawing funny pictures for books, and that's really what he's best at.  Steve lives in Columbus, Ohio, with his wonderful wife, Karen, and their sheepdog, Doodle.

Grade 3–5—Jimmy Sniffles has a nose for evil doings—when he begins to sneeze, you can be sure trouble is brewing. This interactive graphic novel (Stone Arch Books, 2006) by Scott Nickel, illustrated by Steve Harpster, is presented as an interactive book. When Jimmy starts sneezing at breakfast, he realizes that there's something amiss in his neighborhood. It turns out that Mrs. Beasley, the little old lady with the strong perfume, is stealing dogs to sell to Scurvy the Clown, who wants to start a dog circus. Jimmy trails the clown and, following his motto "use what you've got!," helps the dogs escape and stops the clown by throwing a bag of snot on him (be prepared for lots of "ewwws"). This interactive book is very user friendly. The sound can be turned on or off, the story can be played automatically or manually, and pages can be turned forward or in reverse. Special features include a section of discussion questions and writing prompts, a help to teachers looking for independent writing assignments.
