About the Author:

Dr. Alfred B. Smith was born on November 8, 1916. Dr. Smith started Singspiration in 1941, selling five thousand books in the first two months. In 1963, Singspiration moved to Grand Rapids and became part of Zondervan, allowing Al to devote most of his time to ministering in church meetings. He also began his work on Hymn Histories and on Living Hymns. Al committed his life to writing, publishing, and promoting conservative, Christ-honoring music and traditional, biblical hymns. In his lifetime he wrote thousands of songs and hymnsmany of which endure to this day as standards in popular hymnals across the nation. Dr. Alfred B. Smith went home to be with the Lord on August 9, 2001, with singing and praise to his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
