These stories are truly from the mind of a child. When my boys were younger, I would make up bedtime stories for them. They would give me suggestions as to what they thought the characters would or should do. They would usually fall asleep before the end of the story, so they would take shape over the course of several nights. One of the stories, “The Dolphin and the Turtle,” started as a homework assignment given to my older son, Seth. We worked on his story together and included it in this book. Not to be outdone, Spencer made up the basis for the story “The Adventures of Homer the Hippopotamus.” Every story ended with a moral, something to learn to help them understand how we should act towards and treat others.
