ANNABELLE & THE GREAT 1900 HURRICANE, Evelyn Hilton's second book (& sequel to her first book, KIDNAPPED BY PIRATES) is told by 12year-old Laura's precious porcelain doll, Annabelle, who was bought for Laura's birthday by her brother, Ben. During the first week of September, 1900, an unexpected, huge hurricane prowls into the Gulf of Mexico and heads straight for Galveston Island. Laura's family must find a way to survive this deadliest storm ever to hit America. In a daring escape on home-made rafts put together by Ben & his son, Daniel, the family leaps from their crumbling house into the raging, dark sea. This account is based on the true story of the monster hurricane, which killed over 7,000 people and virtually wiped Galveston off the map. More importantly, this tale provides the reader with insight into the brave pioneer men, women and children, who settled the Texas frontier and, despite extreme hardships, paved the way for future generations of Americans to come.
