Far from being in a "post-feminist" age we've seen recently a resurgence of feminist campaigning among women (and some men). There's a new brand of feminism: young, social-media savvy, militant. But there's a new kind of backlash, driven by so-called fundamentalists and by increasingly overt misogyny.

This book gives a unique international perspective to the advances and challenges worldwide.

Nikki van der Gaag is an independent consultant and writer who works primarily on gender. She is the author of The No-Nonsense Guide to Women's Rights, Feminism and Men, and the State of the World's Girls reports published by Plan International.

About the Author:
Nikki van der Gaag: Nikki van der Gaag is an independent consultant and writer who works primarily on gender, with a particular focus on girls and on masculinities. She is the author of The No-Nonsense Guide to Women's Rights (New Internationalist), Feminism and Men (Zed Press), co-author of the first State of the World's Fathers and has been the principal author of six of the eight State of the World's Girls reports published by Plan International. Alongside her writing, she trains, coaches, and manages evaluations.
Review:
`Informative and concise. Let us take inspiration and create a fairer, more feminist 21st century.' Winnie Byanyima, Executive Director, Oxfam International; 'This brief primer is as grounded and accessible as the movement itself. It's about time!' Michael Kimmel, SUNY Distinguished Professor of Sociology; 'A must-read for all who want to understand and join the fight for women's equality.' Mari Marcel Thekaekara, writer, campaigner and activist; 'Very up-to-date, with a useful `very brief history of feminisms', this is a quick read which should lead on to more detailed reading elsewhere (there are plenty of references). Recommended.' Peace News
