From School Library Journal:
ea. vol: illus. by Jill Dow. unpaged. (Our Changing World Series). CIP. Crown. 1988. Tr $9.95. Grade 2-4 Bellamy describes forests and rivers as shared habitats for numerous animal species. These slim surveys are comprised of informative but sketchy texts and attractive detailed illustrations in sunny greens, yellows, and browns. In each book the natural order and loveliness is marred by human intervention: a factory dumps filthy waste into the river, and the forest trees are cut down for lumber. Each book also shows the natural renewal which might occur if these human activities were curtailed. Imported from England, the books refer to many insects and birds likely to be unfamiliar to American children. Bellamy's text is rather static, and the picture book format and the artistic prettiness will limit the audience. However, the ecology lessons may be useful. Many similar volumes, such as William Jaspersohn's How the Forest Grew (Greenwillow, 1980; o.p.), cover forest ecology equally or more successfully, but much less material is available on rivers.
