About the Author:
Keith Mansfield has a background in publishing, having worked as a Publisher for the Pearson group and during five years with Oxford University Press. He is now a freelance writer and publisher
From Booklist:
Thirteen-year-old English student Johnny Mackintosh knows that he is different from other kids: his father is in prison, and his mother is in an asylum for the criminally insane. Early in this fast-paced novel, Johnny runs away from a children’s home and tracks down his long-lost little sister, Clara. They set out on the run together, but just as it appears that they’ll be recaptured, they are suddenly whisked into deep space, where they encounter a universe of oddly shaped aliens. Many adventures unfold as Johnny and Clara travel back and forth through time. Frequently, they use the spaceship Spirit of London, which is a duplicate of the Gherkin, a real-life London skyscraper that looks like a pickle. At the novel’s end, Johnny is beginning to understand his own shadowy origins. Best for hard-core sci-fi fans who will be willing to wade through all the otherworldly detail, this will appeal to fans of Philip Reeve’s Larklight series and Margaret Peterson Haddix’s Found (2008). Expect sequels. Grades 5-8. --Todd Morning
