Following the hugely successful Destination Unknown, this is another collection of 14 prize-winning stories selected from the entries for the Tim Winton Young Writers Award. Written by 6-17 year-olds, Life Bytes are stories about real life situations and experiences - school pranks, bullying and teasing, starting at a new school, family holidays, family deaths, being different and doing your own thing. Whatever the topic, the writing is sometimes funny, sometimes moving, sometimes dramatic but always honest. Grade 4-7-A collection of 13 short stories that won the Tim Winton Young Writers Award, an annual creative writing contest open to school-age children in Perth, Australia. The youngsters are good writers, but most of them don't yet have the skills necessary to capture and keep an audience. Some selections are peppered with uniquely Australian words and spellings (brekkie is breakfast and pressies are presents) that will add interest for some, but discourage and confuse others. Skip this one unless you have an exceptional need for fiction by young authors.
