About the Author:
Nicole Lobry de Bruyn has spent the last ten years writing fiction while earning a living as a veterinary surgeon. She studied creative writing at Murdoch University under Marion Campbell and has been published in Journals, anthologies, magazines and newspapers, including island, Westerly, Marie Claire and The Australian Weekend Review. She has also been short-listed in the HQ short story competition. Nicole lives in Fremantle, Western Australia. Undertow is her first novel.
Review:
'Lobry de Bruyn's first novel is extraordinarily assured. Her prose is sharp, clear and beautifully restrained, creating a deceptively calm surface over a disturbing and painful story of growing up that stayed with me long after I finished reading.' Georgia Blain, author of Closed for Winter and Candelo 'The language is spare and supple. The narrative voice is a delight... I loved the hilarity of Cat's viewpoint, her levelness, her compassion, and the gentle pathos of both her life and the lives that she observes and remembers.' Kathleen Stewart, author of The Red Room and Spilt Milk
