In 1901 a son is born in a small farmhouse at Milora in the Fassifern Valley, the sixth child of the farmer and his wife. In seven months, his mother will be dead. He will live ninety-two years. During those years, he will follow many roads. His experiences, chance encounters, interests and circumstances, some happy, some tragic, some welcome, some not, will help to mould his character, influence his thinking and contribute to his long and colourful life. Yow-ay Bungee is the story of the roads Roy Shelton travelled in the first twenty-four years of his life, from the small depleted farm at Milora, to a rich Merlwood farm in the Murgon district of the South Burnett, and to Rewan Remount Station near the Carnavon Gorge in the Central Queensland Highlands. During this time we learn of the hardships and sacrifices that men and women endured through those early years on the land in order to exist and succeed, and of the tenacity, vision and determination they displayed in the face of adversity. Along the way, we live with him, as we meet all the characters he encounters, his extended family, the men and women of the bush, his Aboriginal friends and the beautiful horses on Rewan Station, all whom contributed to his rich and varied life.
