The book complements the fictive documentary video, Retooling a Tradition, elucidating it as only a scholarly written work can do.

About the Author:
Nazir Ali Jairazbhoy, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Ethnomusicology at UCLA, is a former president of the Society for Ethnomusicology. He served as the first Chair of the Committee on Ethnomusicology of the American Institute of Indian Studies, which fostered the foundation of the Archives and Research Centre for Ethnomusicology (ARCE), a world-class digital archive for India s music. His highly diverse publications range from articles on ancient India to writings on contemporary classical music (The Rags of North Indian Music: their Structure and Evolution) to books (Hi-Tech Shiva and Other Apocryphal Stories: Apsara Media) and audio-video publications on India s folk traditions (Retooling a Tradition: A Rajasthani Puppet Takes Umbrage with his Stringholders: Apsara Media).
