From Booklist:
This attractive title in the new Looking at Europe series gives a serviceable overview of the Czech Republic. Dry, succinct text introduces the country's complex history, geography, and culture, and numerous color photographs and reproductions of artworks illustrate the pages. The slight length and heavily illustrated format suggest a younger audience than the text's target readership, which must have some familiarity with undefined terms such as communism and the World Trade Organization. In addition, a time line would have added cohesion to the highly abbreviated historical section, and only a handful of Web sites (no books) are suggested for further research. Still, the well-reproduced visuals will draw browsers and young report writers, who can use this as a starting point for further research. Gillian Engberg

From School Library Journal:
Grade 4-7–These attractively designed titles look at each nation's history, topography, culture, cuisine, transportation, economy, and nature. While the texts are brief, the content is solid enough for a basic report. The format is pleasing, with good-quality, full-color photos on every spread. Captions and frequent sidebars add information to the texts. Each title contains an ethnic recipe. These appealing overviews deserve to be in most collections.–Eldon Younce, Harper Elementary School, KS
