Paul Engle wrote about "old names worn water-smooth under the tongue." That, to be sure, is not our problem in examining a variety of terms commonly used to refer to the fastest growing culture in our nation. What do we call these citizens? What do they call themselves? Hispanic, Hispano, Spanish American, Latino/a, Chicano/a, la raza, Mexican American, Puerto Rican American, or Cuban American? What about others from the Caribbean or Central and South America?
