Dr. Franklin Quigley has a delicate problem: his wife has lost her mind and fled with their strangely deformed young daughter.
His innocent request: find them and bring them back.
But when the cemetery earth churns with the blood of the dead and the ground reverberates with the cries of feasting, innocence only begets corruption.
The Realm of Shadows is a major new Call of Cthulhu campaign from the author of Walker in the Wastes and Coming Full Circle. Inside you'll find source material on ghouls, the Cult of the Charnel God, and the notorious Cultes des Goules, as well as four adventures that take investigators through Massachusetts, the Dreamlands, and the rain forests of French Guiana. Featuring extensive investigations, numerous player aids, and terrifying opponents, The Realm of Shadows is a feast of horror.
"Enough with the gushing-- this group of scenarios starts out in typical Cthulhu fashion being small, with greater horrors being unleashed along the way. The central "villains" within the book are ghouls, and a certain deadly cult. Within the course of the book certain mysteries will be solved, war will begin, and investigators will travel to French Guiana, the Dreamlands, and back again." (Capsule Review by Scott Shafer on 03/03/98 for RPG.net)
"Finally, no review of Realm of Shadows would be complete without stating that it is illustrated by the one and only Blair Reynolds. His art is extremely disturbing. This makes it ideal for Realm of Shadows, a product which is intended for mature gamers." (Capsule Review by Lisa Padol on 11/14/97 for RPG.net)
"It's in the locations, though, that The Realm of Shadows really shines. French Guiana (where the notorious French prison Devil's Island is located) is a terrific setting -- equal parts prison colony, frontier town, and _extremely_ inhospitable wilderness -- and the book makes the most of it. The Dreamlands locations are appropriately mysterious, exotic and eerie, and the Massachusetts locations have plenty of local color and interesting NPCs.
"The best thing about The Realm of Shadows, though, is just how well it is written and designed as a game accessory -- I really hope other game writers read it and learn from it." -- Capsule Review by Eric Brochu on 10/05/97 for RPG.net
