The two axes of this new collection of poetry by noted author Douglas Messerli are the art of Los Angeles artist John Baldessari and the work of contemporary Italian poets. Dedicated to poet Amelia Rosselli, who committed suicide in 1996, Bow Down is, in part, a writing through numerous translations of contemporary Italian poetry along with Messerli’s specific responses to Baldessari’s art. Like the artist, the poet shares a method of collage which points at culture and political aspects of the world.
