When we found an old box full of pictures hidden at our home base in New Zealand, we spent two days savouring memories of our eleven years on board Seraffyn. Then Larry turned to me and said, "Wouldn't it be fun to put these in the next edition of Cruising in Seraffyn?" That started it all, "Why not update the book too?" I suggested.

When we first wrote this book, we were trying to remind people that you did not have to be rich to be wealthy. Even though all sorts of magazines tried to sell you on the idea that you need a big boat, a big budget and lots of gadgets to get out cruising, we had learned we could cruise away on our 24 foot cutter and a budget of $250 a month and explore the far reaches of the world. This message reached the hearts and minds of thousands of sailors then. We think it will be just as important today. And yes, we are still out voyaging on a small boat, Taleisin, a bigger sister to Seraffyn is 29'9", engineless and our budget though larger in numbers is still an affordable $l,000 a month.
