About the Author:

Dr. Arnoud H. Klokke, after studying medicine at Leiden University, was appointed District Medical Officer in 1949 for the Kapuas region, Central Kalimantan. Of necessity he learned the Ngaju Dayak language and observed their various customs.

Dr. Klokke's work in Indonesia came to an end in 1959. He returned to the Netherlands and became Professor of Dermatology at the University of Groningen, where he remains Professor Emeritus.
